ULF grant to CADS
CROOKWELL Amateur Dramatic Society (CADS) has provided opportunities for budding actors, performers, musicians and support crew to develop their creative crafts for well over thirty years. Their performances provide an outlet for talent with much appreciated amusement and entertainment for our community.
Their recent production, Cinderella, provided much needed comic relief in these dry times with six performances at the Crookwell Memorial Hall.
CADS has had challenges managing a quality production due to incredibly cramped dressing rooms where cast and crew numbering 30-50 madly ready themselves for performances. The cramped conditions create noise that can be distracting to the performers.
The current dressing rooms have not been touched for over 14 years and organizing makeup and wardrobe adjacent to the dressing rooms for the performers requires nothing less than military precision to execute.
CADS applied to Upper Lachlan Foundation (ULF) for a grant to assist with the updating of their dressing rooms that will provide a more comfortable, functional area with easy access to props and wardrobe.
The project has commenced to improve sound, power and ultimately refurbishment will provide flooring, additional power points, racks for storage, lights for makeup and completion of the dressing rooms.
ULF Treasurer, Kate Price and ULF Secretary, Charlie Prell presented a cheque to CADS President, Robert Bill at a recent rehearsal night who commented, “We appreciate receiving the ULF grant and look forward to completing the project by June, 2016”.
ULF is a philanthropic organization run by local volunteers to provide funds via grants for community projects from interest raised from investments with the Public Trustee. The investments originate from corporate and sporting sponsorships, donations, membership fees, trusts and by only allocating the interest, the principal remains in perpetuity ensuring that funds will be available into future generations.
This spirit of community helping community is the foundation of ULF. Membership is a modest $20 per annum and more details can be found on their website: www.upperlachlanfoundation.com.
